Sizwe Mkwanazi Africa 2023

Sizwe Mkwanazi is a Lecturer at the University of Johannesburg in the Department of Business Management. He is responsible for two undergraduate modules and he supervises postgraduate research on business studies, higher education and entrepreneurship education. Sizwe began his academic career in 2014.

In addition to his academic career Sizwe is involved in the development of cooperative social enterprises in Soweto, Johannesburg. He is the General Secretary and a Co-Founder at the Africa Cooperatives Institute of SA. The institute offers support to women owned and grassroot cooperatives through research, training and consultancy. Sizwe is also the Founder of The Youth For Action Rural Youth Development Foundation and the People Against Farm Evictions initiative. In both initiatives Sizwe is involved in leading discussions, supporting the development of young men based on farms, facilitating skills training and harnessing the existing talent.

Sizwe is also a 2017 South African Rhodes Scholar. Whilst in Oxford, Sizwe, was a Co-Lead for the Rhodes Incubator. He is also a 2015 Mandela Rhodes Scholar. He was listed on the 2019 Mail & Gurdian Young Leaders, also as one of the 2019 News24 Mandelas of the Future. In Oxford Sizwe is reading for a DPhil in Education specialising on the Conceptualisations of Entrepreneurship amongst university students.

Sizwe holds a Master of Technology Degree (distinction) and an MSc in Business Management – Entrepreneurship.
