Rekgotsofetse Chikane is a lecturer at the Wits School of Governance and a research associate at the Wits Institute for Socio-Economic Research. He is also the Teaching and Learning Manager for the Tayarisha African Centre of Excellence for Digital Governance.
Prior to his time at the University of Witwatersrand he was the Strategist for MegaTech AI and the National President of InkuluFreeHeid. He holds a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Oxford and is currently completing his PhD at the University of Witwatersrand’s School of Governance. His research is currently focused on decolonial development and complexity economics.
He is a Mandela-Rhodes Scholar (2015); a recipient of the Mandela-Washington Fellowship (2016); an Obama African Leader for 2019; and a South Africa Washington International Programme alumn and was previously recognised as one of the Mail & Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans (2016).
