Bahaa El-Taweal Global 2025

Bahaa El-Taweal is a Global Policy Lead on Google’s Human Rights Team, responsible for advising senior leadership, and teams across Google on the potential human rights impacts of emerging technology, including AI; conducting human rights due diligence; and engaging human rights experts and stakeholders around the world.

Over the past 15 years Bahaa has worked on various human rights, global security, and technology issues. He served as a senior policy operations manager and a team lead on YouTube’s counter-violent extremism and crisis response teams, tackling complex tech-related challenges, primarily the adversarial use of tech to cause harm in the context of terrorism, armed conflicts, and influence operations.

Bahaa’s commitment to human rights stems from his early career as a journalist in the Middle East, where he witnessed firsthand the fight for freedom and democracy. He holds a Master’s degree from Harvard University, and a Law degree from Alexandria University.
