Aliya Bhatia The Americas 2024

Aliya Bhatia is a policy analyst at the Center for Democracy & Technology’s Free Expression Project. She conducts research and advocacy on issues related to content moderation, disinformation, government surveillance, kids’ safety, and AI in the US and around the world. She has served on the junior board of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project and Amnesty International’s Immigrant Surveillance Working Group. Aliya previously worked at Ranking Digital Rights, the Association for a Better New York, the Brookings Institution, and the City of Toronto. She has previously written for Wired, Documented, CityLimits, and the Toronto Star and has been interviewed by the Washington Post, Foreign Policy, Fast Company, Barron’s, 404 Media, The Verge, and others. She holds a Master’s in Public Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a BA from the University of Toronto.
